Part 1 - The perils of unknown space

My ship alerts me that I've just entered a new sector. According to the database, this one is known as silicon lands. I've heard of it, never been here before, neither did I ever expect to come here, but sometimes the wait between opportunities can be long, and a different sector might offer something right now. Of course, being somewhere new has it's drawbacks. I don't know where the safe routes are, I don't know where anything is.

I run a short range scan for the nearest point of interest.

Roll on Space Sighting = 14 | Stella Object.Roll Stella Object = 19 | Glowing Orange Star.

The Scanners pick up a star. It's a bright, orange star. I can just about make out its glow in the distance.

Roll on Space Sighting = 94 | Roll twice.First result = 37 | Settlement (Named Sigil). When rolling the settlement creation, I discovered that it is planetside, therefore rolled up a planet (a jungle planet named Phaedra)Second result = 83 | Chaotic meteoroid storm.

The scanners pick up a meteoroid storm. It looks quite lively according to the computer, something I'll probably wish to avoid, but more interestingly, is the settlement that it's picked up. No doubt our first port of call in this sector.

Undertake and expedition. Progress track.

I keep an eye on things closely as I pilot the ship manually towards the settlement. I don't know this sector, I've no idea of its people, races or any of its law.

Roll = 4 + Wits (3) = 7 vs 1 | 7. Weak hit. Mark progress at a cost.

The Meteoroid storm appears to be gaining on me, it's trajectory should see it sweep by the settlement, but I may see the tail end of it unless I can speed up away from its path.

Set up a "clock" to indicate the storm gaining ground on me.

Face Danger. Set the ships thrusters to full throttle in an attempts to get round the few rocks at the edge of the storm. (+Edge (4))

Roll = 5 + Edge (4) = 9 vs 3, 10. Weak hit; Mark progress and fill a clock segment.

Alarms on my ship begins to bleep. Just a small initial warning. The sensors are probably picking up increased amounts of dust, and possibly the scanner are detecting the unusual amounts of rocks in one space.

Face Danger.Roll = 5 + Edge (4) = 9 vs 7, 10. Weak hit; Mark progress and fill a clock segment. (Progress now 6, Clock = 2 segments).

More warnings from the console. Some of the debris is rapping against the ships shields.

Face Danger. Roll = 6 + Edge (4) = 10 vs 4, 10. Weak hit; Mark progress and fill a clock segment.

I'm feeling lucky. I think I'm just flying through the real out rim of the storm. Ir looks like I might not get wrapped up in this.

Progress move - Roll against the Track (9) vs 9, 10. MISS

I'm going to use my fugitive path asset here to turn this into a strong hit. I mark 1 on the fugitive clock, but it also means I have escaped the meteoroid storm.

With that now behind us, I can concentrate on travelling to Sigil again. I decide to continue at speed during this leg so as to steer clear from any rogue rocks being flung from the storm.

Undertake an Expedition Roll + Edge (4)

Roll = 6 + Edge (4) = 10 vs 5, 5. Strong hit with a MATCH.

I reach another waypoint. Due to the MATCH on the dice, following a strong hit, I am going to roll for a spaceborne opportunity.

Roll = 5 | Automated signal offers a helpful message or warning.

I will now roll on the Descriptor and Focus tables to interpret the content of the message or warning.

Descriptor = 22 | Constructed

Focus = 11 | Blockade

As I opened a channel, a voice crackled.

"...blocked....Do not approach....The ..... have got.... we are all ..... Repeat..... do .... approach.... with your life....".

This is followed by a loud crackle, then the line goes dead.

I attempt to open communications on all frequencies, but there's nothing. I try several times but nothing. This all fits well with the settlement I rolled.

I continue on with my journey to Sigil, but I slow the ship down. I need to be be extra cautious here.

Undertake an Expedition Roll + Wits (3)

Roll = 3 + Wits (3) = 6 vs 4, 6. Weak hit. Mark progress at a cost.

Another communication comes through to the Sister's Winter. A different voice. Threatening.

"If you know what is good for you, you will turn back your ship now or face the consequences."

I respond back. "Tell me who you are and I will decide whether or not I recognise your authority"

Progress move - Roll against the Track to see if I finish the expedition and reach Sigil (9).

9 vs 8, 9. Weak hit.

Mark reward on Discovery Legacy track.

As I come to within a few thousand kilometres of the settlement, which I now discover is on a lush green planet, covered in foliage, there in front of me is a fleet of ships. I am being hailed again. The same, threatening voice fills the ship.

"Perhaps you will recognise the authority of our heavily armed ships".

End a session. I would like to focus on making a connection on the next episode...

+1 momentum (now +3).

End of Part 1.
